Worship

The Lighthouse provides a full-time chaplain who leads group and individual Bible studies. Why does The Lighthouse provide staff and transportation every week to go to the church of your choice?

Because you find:

  • A warm handshake

  • Prayer by those who care

  • Joy for the soul

  • Strength for the journey

  • Fellowship of true friends

  • Encouraging words that give courage

  • Hope and light

The Lighthouse believes that religious choice is strictly an individual right and no one will be pressured to participate in any religion. However,  The Lighthouse also sees the need to give everyone opportunity, to who so desires, to grow in their faith.

School

The Lighthouse assists in providing educational placement and services that are best suited for each school appropriate client. These educational services allow for academic advancement as well as adult daily life skills to help increase each school client’s independence in order to improve quality of life.

We have four schooling options for our residents that are dependent on both their cognitive and behavioral needs.

Highland Pines

Part of the Tuscola Intermediate School District, a center based program for clients with cognitive, and/ or multiple physical impairments.  The building was deshe building was specifically designed to accommodate special needs students, with wide hallways, handicapped accessible gymnasium, pool and whirlpool.

Lighthouse On-Site School Lighthouse School

Tuscola ISD supplies certified special education teachers in collaboration with Lighthouse psychologists, social workers and direct care staff to meet the individual needs of students with behavioral difficulties.  Located on the Lighthouse campus, which allows for consistent behavior plans between school and the homes while preventing clients from early departure from the school day.

There are two classrooms:

  • One classroom is for Cognitively Impaired students that are behaviorally unable to attend Highland Pines.

  • The second classroom is an Emotionally Impaired classroom for students that are cognitively appropriate for the local school district (Caro Community Schools), but behaviorally are unable to be successful in the public school setting.

The Lighthouse School cannot award diplomas but they can make recommendations for credit upon transfer to a public school setting.

The Lighthouse School uses a Compass Learning program whose credits are accepted by our local school district, Caro.

The Lighthouse School also focuses on GED preperation as well for students that are appropriate for that path.

If a student is cognitively appropriate for Caro Community Schools, but struggles behaviorally, our goal at The Lighthouse School is to work on behaviors so academics can be focused on. Once behavioral stability is achieved, the goal is to transition the student into Caro Community Schools on a slow and gradual basis to better ensure success.

Caro Community Schools

This local public school district is for our residents who are cognitively appropriate to work towards a high school diploma, and are behaviorally stable to be successful in this setting.

In-Home Schooling

Tuscola ISD also provides 2 non-consecutive hours of schooling at the resident’s home for clients that are unable to participate in any of the above schooling options for various reasons.
